Here Jesus compares His people to salt. He names them salt. Any
mother or a father wants to give their children beautiful names,
because they really wish their children to be the great people on
the earth. Some compare their children to gold and some to the great
people of the earth. Some give their children the names of their
gods and goddesses, because they think that the names will surely be
blessing to their children. Some give their children the names of
their forefathers, fathers and their relatives to keep them in their
remembrances. Some have the names of holy people and some have the
names of the great leaders to their children.

Many have wonderful names and their lives are quite contrary to
the meaning of the names they have. A person has a name Samson
but he is quite thin and weak and also he is a coward. Another
person has a name David but he does never live like David. The
name Jesus means the Savior. Jesus has the name, because He is
really the savior of the world. He laid down His life on the
cross to save the mankind from sin, curse, death and the hell.
We just believe on the Lord Jesus and we and our household will
be saved (Acts 16:31). Peter says Acts 4:12,
NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION IN ANY OTHER: FOR THERE IS NONE
OTHER NAMING UNDER HEAVEN GIVE AMONG MEN, WHERE BY WE MUST BE
SAVED. |

"...Jesus wants His people to have such lives befitting to the
meanings of their names. So He calls them, SALT..." |

Jesus wants His people to have such lives befitting to the
meanings of their names. So He calls them, SALT. As we know salt is
not a very valuable material like gold or silver and neither it is a
very costly one. No curry is tasty without salt. No eatable is tasty
with out salt. No puddings are prepared with out salt. Indian
husbands become furious towards their wives when salt is not added
to their eatables. When they find that there I not salt they do not
hesitate to use a foul language for their wives who are really
chaste women. It is because the lack of salt takes away their
appetite for the food their wives offer and so they are irritated a
lot. We may add spices, flavors and essence but if we do not add
salt that will not be delicious to eat. Salt has it is own role and
place in the eatables. It says Add all things to the food and taste
and add me to the food and taste it, you will find the difference
Salt is different, special and essential one.
Christians are like salt. They are essential for the society. Wit
out Christians there is no blessing to the man kind. The existence
of Christians is good for the welfare of the mankind. Without
Christians the society will neither be safe nor be happy. Christians
must be like salt. Their lives must be befitting to the meaning of
the word salt. Jesus says in Mathew 5:13, if the salt has lost savor,
where with shall it be salted? It is thence forth good for nothing,
but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. That means
that when the salt does not give savor to the food it is quite a
useless and it is considered to be the worst thing on the earth and
so it is thrown out and is trodden under the feet of men.
When a Christian does not live like a Christian, he is
considered to be the salt which has lost its savor, thrown out and
trodden under the foot of men. Continued…
